You keep Open Dental. Nothing gets migrated, converted or exported. Open Dental stays your system of record, and every add-on on this page reads from it or writes into it.
In your Intake.Dental dashboard, click to get an Open Dental API key. We issue it for your office and show you exactly where to paste it. The whole connection takes about five minutes.
In Open Dental, check in Service Manager that the eConnector is running. Then go to Setup > Advanced Setup > API, check Enabled, and use Add Key to paste the key. We install nothing. You don't need database passwords, a VPN or port forwarding.
Click Connect. We test the key against your Open Dental and start real-time sync: writes go into Open Dental as they happen, and patients, appointments and procedures refresh from Open Dental every 15 minutes. From there each add-on (receptionist, payments, fax, verification, notes, perio, forms, texting) uses that same connection.
Setup runs through Open Dental's API and the eConnector already on your server. Nothing is installed at your office. Keep that server on overnight, because the larger scheduled syncs run then. Payment, adjustment and procedure-note writes use the standard Open Dental API permissions; if your office's permissions block one, we tell you rather than drop it. You can disable the key from inside Open Dental at any time.
Through Open Dental's Remote API. Calls go to Open Dental's servers, which route them to the eConnector on your server. We issue the API key, and you enable it under Setup > Advanced Setup > API. There is no bridge software and no direct connection to your database. Everything goes through Open Dental's API. If the eConnector goes offline, the dashboard shows when it last answered.
No. Nothing is converted or exported. Open Dental stays your system of record. Appointments, notes, perio exams and forms that we write are ordinary Open Dental records, and your team can read them with or without us.
Yes. Anything we do is written into Open Dental when it happens: a booked call, a confirmation, a posted payment, a filed fax or an approved note. Before the AI receptionist or online scheduling books a slot, it checks Open Dental live. Changes your team makes inside Open Dental reach our side on a 15-minute refresh.
AI clinical notes (as procedure notes), AI charting (as procedures), voice perio charting (as native perio exams), the AI receptionist and online scheduling (bookings, reschedules and cancellations), ASAP list bookings, appointment confirmations, card and text-to-pay payments (to the ledger), ERA insurance payments (to the claim procedure), filed faxes, intake and consent PDFs, accepted treatment plans, insurance verification dates, benefit notes and verified plans, and texts and emails logged to the Comm Log. The list above has the specifics.
Yes. After the call it books the appointment into your Open Dental schedule for the provider the caller chose, at the length of the appointment type, in the chair the open slot came from. It reschedules by booking the new time before breaking the old one, and it cancels by marking the appointment Broken. If no provider was chosen on the call, a staff member may need to place the booking.
Yes. Card, text-to-pay, in-office checkout, statement and membership payments post to the patient's Open Dental ledger as a payment under your Credit Card pay type, with a reference that prevents double posting. Insurance payments from ERAs post to the claim procedure, not the patient ledger. Anything that can't post automatically is emailed to your office to reconcile. The payments page has the details.
Yes. When you file a fax to a patient from the Digital Fax inbox, the PDF goes into their Open Dental Imaging, in a folder that matches the fax type, with a chart note. We keep our own copy too. If your Open Dental server is offline when you file, file the fax again once it is back.
Each night we read upcoming appointments and each patient's plan from Open Dental, then run eligibility through our clearinghouse connection. We don't use Open Dental's built-in eligibility. Results come back as the verified date on Open Dental's Insurance Verification List plus a benefits summary in the appointment note. Patients your office already verified recently are skipped. When your team verifies a patient who is the policyholder and has no insurance on file, the verified plan is added to the chart. We don't fill in the plan's benefit rows on the insurance tab, and dependents' or additional plans are flagged for the front desk instead of being added.
The full completed form is filed as a PDF in the patient's Imaging module, in your Medical History folder if you have one, or your Patient Information or Miscellaneous folder if not. Allergies are added as structured entries when they match an allergy on your Open Dental list, including common misspellings and abbreviations. Medications are added when they match your Open Dental medication list. Medical conditions, and anything that doesn't match, stay in the PDF and are flagged for your team to review.
Yes. Open Dental's API can push an image file out to a secure location we control, so we can show radiographs without any software at your office. Radiographs and photos your staff upload also go back into Open Dental Imaging. AI overlay findings stay in our app and are not written into Open Dental.
No. Claims Intelligence reads your adjudicated Open Dental claim lines to show what each payer actually pays and writes off by code. Claim drafting for staff review is built but not yet in use at any Open Dental office, and it never creates claims inside Open Dental. Nothing is submitted automatically.
Here are the main gaps today. We don't create or update Open Dental recall records, so recall reminders come from your hygiene appointment history. No-shows marked in our dashboard are not written to Open Dental. Medical conditions aren't written to the problems list. We don't fill in benefit rows on the insurance plan, and we don't add dependents' or secondary plans automatically. Insurance payments covering several procedures on one claim are left for staff to post. We don't use Open Dental's real-time eligibility. We haven't verified the connection with an Open Dental Cloud (hosted) office.
Every plan includes a BAA, and patient health information is encrypted at the field level. Pricing is published. The AI Receptionist is $499.99/month flat, Insurance Verification is $199.99, Claims Intelligence is $299.99 and Voice Perio Charting is $49.99. Every plan is month-to-month with a 14-day trial.
If you run Open Dental and want AI on top of it, you shouldn't have to give up the chart your team already knows. One connection through your eConnector gives you real-time sync, and lets the receptionist, scheduling, payments, fax, verification, treatment plans, notes, perio and forms work inside Open Dental. Where a piece doesn't write back yet, this page says so.

I run Open Dental workflows in my own practice, so this page sticks to what our Open Dental integration reads, what it writes back, and where it stops. We connect through Open Dental's own API and your eConnector, with real-time sync: when something happens on our side, it is written into Open Dental right then. The AI receptionist, online scheduling, the ASAP list, text to pay and card payments, digital fax, insurance verification, treatment plans, AI clinical notes, voice perio, AI charting and digital forms all work against the chart you already have.
